Targeting Biofilm of MDR Providencia stuartii by Phages Using a Catheter Model

چکیده
Providencia spp. are emerging pathogens mainly in nosocomial infections. stuartii particular is involved urinary tract infections and contributes significantly to the high incidence of biofilm-formation catheterized patients. Furthermore, recent reports suggested a role for multiple drug resistant (MDR) P. hospital-associated outbreaks which leads excessive complications resulting challenging treatments. Phage therapy currently one most promising solutions combat antibiotic-resistant However, number available phages targeting extremely limited, restricting use phage such cases. In present study, we describe isolation characterization 17 lytic temperate bacteriophages clinical isolates as part Israeli Bank (IPB). These phages, isolated from sewage samples, were evaluated host range activity effectively eradicated 95% tested bacterial strains different geographic locations displaying wide antibiotic resistance. Their demonstrated on agar plates, planktonic cultures, biofilm formed catheter model. The results suggest that these can potentially be used treatment general particular.

Case report: Providencia stuartii conjunctivitis
PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to report a case of Providencia stuartii conjunctivitis. METHODS This study is a retrospective chart review of a patient with persistent conjunctivitis. RESULTS We report the first case of P. stuartii conjunctivitis. Our patient was an elderly man living in a nursing home who was likely immunocompromised from longstanding diabetes mellitus. A conjunctiva...
متن کاملComplete genome sequence of Providencia stuartii clinical isolate MRSN 2154.
Here we present the complete genome sequence of Providencia stuartii MRSN 2154, isolated from an Afghan national. P. stuartii is a Gram-negative bacillus capable of causing infections in a wide variety of human tissues. Because Providencia readily acquires plasmids bearing drug resistance loci, it is of growing clinical significance.
متن کاملUnderstanding Voltage Gating of Providencia stuartii Porins at Atomic Level
Bacterial porins are water-filled β-barrel channels that allow translocation of solutes across the outer membrane. They feature a constriction zone, contributed by the plunging of extracellular loop 3 (L3) into the channel lumen. Porins are generally in the open state, but undergo gating in response to external voltages. To date the underlying mechanism is unclear. Here we report results from m...
متن کاملO serotyping of Providencia stuartii isolates collected from twelve hospitals.
A collection of 829 isolates of Providencia stuartii, mostly from urological specimens of patients in 12 hospitals, were O serotyped. Hospitals varied in serotype distribution, but most isolates (97%) fell into one or another of 14 O types of P. stuartii. One type (O63) was found in 10 hospitals, and six types (O4, O17, O25, O52, O55, O56) were found in 5 or more hospitals. These seven types we...
متن کاملUnusual Enterobacteriaceae. "Proteus rettgeri" that "change" into Providencia stuartii.
A blood culture bottle from a patient with bacteremia contained both Proteus rettgeri biogroup 5 and Providencia stuartii (described in Bergey's Manual of Determinative Bactiology [8th ed., 1974] as Proteus inconstans), which had the same unusual antibiotic resistance pattern. Single colonies of this P. rettgeri biogroup 5 isolate were shown to produce urea- clones. If current taxonomy is used,...
